Henry Hall:- "Radio Times"

Tickety’s Tip Top Tunes!

It was meant to be ‘Teddy Winnerton’s Tip Top Tunes’, but I’m afraid he is off touring all the dance halls with the Horlicks Mixers, so as result, is unable to do any guest posts. By the way, none of that will make any sense, so let’s just say that I had a dream where I went to see a dance band call ‘Teddy Winnerton and the Horlicks Mixers’! The Horlicks Mixers were actually rather good, and their band leader was quite a catch too- I suppose he looked a bit like a dark haired version of Henry Hall.... Oh, and he had horn-rimmed specs and all. Actually come to think of it, Henry Hall did have dark hair (didn't he?)…Funny how in my dream he looked like another band leader isn’t it. Gosh, I have no imagination!!!

Anyway, because I have a lot of sheet music in a pile, all unread (I’m not musically gifted in any way), I thought I would scan in the covers and look up the tunes to go with them on the ‘Tube’ for all to see. When I pick up sheet music I always look for songs that mean something to me or images that are pleasing to the eye…. This means I have A LOT of the stuff as I like a wide variety of music and most sheet covers are nicely illustrated! So far I have scanned in about half my collection, which are all the ones small enough to fit in the scanner, unfortunately the rest are whoppers and I’m dreading scanning them in two sections- what a palaver that will be eh!

So to kick it off  here is Radio Times by Henry Hall (or is it Mr. Winnerton?) from 1934.
Rather snappy graphics do you  not think?
And it's a good tune to boot!
And so to the tune....

In the words of Henry Hall...
Here's to the next time.

Coronation Crackers

TIME FOR TEA.

WEEK FOURTEEN

First up you will need to get the tea from the caddy...
Tea Caddy with Eliz on the Front, naturally!
Phil on the back....

...and the Top.
WEEK FIFTEEN
.... Then you'll need to put the tea in the pot...
The Pot- 'scuse the dodgy photo,
it was a nightmare trying to get a semi decent snap!
Close up of the Coronation Teapot- It's only a one cuppa, so forget your guest!
WEEK SIXTEEN
....Once brewed and with biscuits at hand, place pot, cups and biccies (don't forget the biscuits!) on a suitable tray...
why this old thing will do!
Tray....
Oh and just so you don't drench the Queen and Philip on their outing, why not place an embroidered tray cloth other them....
like this one perhaps?
tray cloth in need of some restoration!
...Now who's for a cuppa?

She hasn't has she....

.... Oh I think you’ll find she has *gasp*!

Yes my lovelies, I’ve gone and got myself a facebook page. I’m not sure why, but I thought I’d better since there was another profile proclaiming to be a one ‘Tickety Boo- Tupney’, and I wasn’t having it! So here I am, or rather, ‘here I am’ when you pop over and like my page!!!

please do as I don't want to be lonely-
At the moment it’s a bit like playing Monopoly by myself!
Sincerely yours
Tupney x

The three whole weeks we were parted!

At last, after a three week parting (far too long), my very precious bits and bobs are now back safely in my possession.

Here are a few (read a lot!) photos of the exhibition I created to help out my local heritage centre. I was given full reign, so I decided to concentrate on the Home Front (WWII). I'm far too exhausted to go into too much detail, as I'm still in the process of finding new homes for all the stuff...... again!

If I did my job properly then the pictures should be relatively self explanatory!!!
Well maybe they would be if only they were clear!

Coupons, Fashion, Patterns, make-up and wartime packaging...

Wedding dress and photos, US parachute panel, 40's suit and hat.....
UTILITY undies, gloves and stockings. Endura perming kit and
more wartime wedding photos....

Children's fashion, games, books....
ARP- a selection of gas masks....
Men's stuff! Utility shirt and braces,
knitted pullover (from 1947- don't have a wartime one!), fashion catalogue
and some wartime packaging....
On the Kitchen Front- Wartime packaging, MofF leaflets, Ration Books,
Ration recipe cookery books, special margarine wrapper, pretty green scales in box and utility apron....
This section was  meant to be the letters home section, but I ran out of time
to rewrite some of my  more interesting letters ( I didn't want to put in the originals which was a good job too,
as some of the original photos that I didn't scan have started to curl and dry out- me not happy!)
Anyway... Comforts for the services, and other related items to do with the different services- I don't have much to do this- YET!
VE Day Radio Times....

Close Up...
...And my Winnie the WAAF with a  Handmade RAF silk hankie/.stocking pouch!
Not that you can see it, but it's really cute!
As with most things, well,  it was better in the flesh!  I do  hope you enjoyed my mini tour anyway!
You might see them more clearly  here -I'm not really sure which is the the correct code thingy to link to me blog! (Help....anybody... please!)

I suppose I must shower, and once again start thinking about re homing all my treasures.... only two more bags and a lounge floor full of stuff left to sort!

Tata All.

Happy Bithday Doris!

.... Many Happy Returns for the Day, Doris-
Who has turned 88 today!
I couldn't possibly choose a favourite song, but I do like Ms. Day's rendition of this tune....
(Some lovely snaps in this clip)

....and I couldn't possibly choose my favourite Doris film either (just call me Miss Indecisive!),
though I have always like Calamity Jane and By the light of the Silvery Moon-
so instead I have chosen a clip from a film I haven’t seen yet!

Gosh I love this outfit!
And isn't she just the most perfect creature that you have ever seen.
Oh, and how I wish I still had the Doris coloured locks that my 4 year old self had- Pah to mucky blonde hair!
